This semester, Gerard Karsenty, MD, PhD -- a Columbia Aging Center Faculty Research Fellow -- will present findings in his seminar "Toward an Endocrine Explanation of Aging."

How Does the Age of Our Political Leaders Affect Our Opinions of Older Adults?

Journalist and author Chris Farrell is an alumnus of the Columbia Aging Center's Age Boom Academy. On January 8th, he wrote a piece for Nextavenue.org about how the city of Louisville is taking on aging -- as a huge opportunity for economic growth.  Chris said, "I recently spent a few days nosing around Louisville to find out why and how the city has made aging such a priority and was, frankly, pretty blown away."

Digging deeper, insight came when he started interviewing locals:

Please join us on Monday, January 29, at 3:00 p.m. for this special joint lecture with the Department of Epidemiology by Katherine Ornstein, PhD, MPH, Assistant Professor, Department of Geriatrics and Palliative Medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.  Dr. Ornstein will present "Reframing Healthcare Beyond the Individual: A Focus on Serious Illness and End-of-Life Care.”

On January 17th, the Columbia Aging Center presents the recipients of the  2017 Age Smart Employer Awards. The finalists were announced here on January 2nd.

Read about Ruth Finkelstein and Dorian Block's digital narrative project, featured on the website of the Mailman School of Public Health. The project features 20 New Yorkers past the age of 81 and challenges the idea of what it means to grow old in New York.
